LAMBDA OMNICOLL Autosampler: Automated Online Sampling for Bioreactors

The development, optimization, and control of bioprocesses in bioreactor systems rely on the precise analysis of key process parameters. Essential sample data—such as concentrations of glucose, amino acids, growth inhibitors, and metabolites—are critical for optimizing culture performance and dynamically adjusting process conditions. However, sampling from bioreactors can be labor-intensive, especially during fed-batch and continuous fermentation processes that require frequent and precise sampling. Automating this task greatly improves efficiency and accuracy.

Automated Bioreactor Sampling with LAMBDA OMNICOLL Autosampler

The LAMBDA OMNICOLL Fraction Collector seamlessly integrates into bioreactor workflows, enabling laboratories to automate and streamline precise sample collection, enhancing reproducibility and reducing manual intervention.

Connecting a pump to the fraction collector enables the LAMBDA OMNICOLL to function as an auto-sampler for drawing liquid.

Key Features of LAMBA OMNICOLL Autosampler

Versatile Compatibility

  • The OMNICOLL Fraction Collector is compatible with any bioreactor system, ensuring seamless integration for automated sampling tasks.

Continuous and Timed Sampling

  • With the aid of a LAMBDA Peristaltic Pump, OMNICOLL collects samples continuously or at pre-set time intervals.
  • Sampling intervals range from 0.1 minutes to 16.6 hours (or 1 minute to 166 hours), providing exceptional flexibility to suit various process requirements.

Choose the pump based on desired flow range. MEGAFLOW pumps are most suitable for viscous cultures and flow range requirements up to 60 L/hr.

 Parallel Sampling

  • The OMNICOLL system can simultaneously sample from multiple bioreactors when paired with a multichannel peristaltic pump (third-party) or multiple LAMBDA Peristaltic Pumps.
  • This feature is ideal for parallel fermentation processes and high-throughput workflows.

Event-Triggered Sampling

The OMNICOLL can perform sampling based on specific process events, such as alarm signals during fermentation. This enables critical data collection for troubleshooting and refining processes.

Waste discard and Sample collection process

·       If a sample needs to be collected every hour, the waste present in the tubing is discarded first, and the required sample is collected sequentially.

·       The autosampler first discards the waste content in the tubing and then extracts fresh samples, dispense into the subsequent tubing. For example, tubes 1, 3, and 5 contain discarded liquid (waste), while fresh samples are collected in the tubes immediately following them (e.g., tubes 2, 4, 6, etc.)

Sample Storage and Flexibility in Sample Handling

Wide Range of Recipients

  • The OMNICOLL accommodates diverse sampling containers, including Microwell plates, Microtubes/Eppendorf, Falcon tubes, test tubes, and large bottles.
  • For large-scale sampling, the system’s capacity can be extended using additional support extensions.
  • A cold bath can be placed under the fraction collector to maintain samples at the desired temperature during collection. The OMNICOLL Autosampler also compatible to use in the cold room.

Automated bioreactor sampling from single Bioreactor:

Automated Bioreactor sampling using LAMBDA OMNICOLL Fraction collector

  • By using an automated fraction collector, the sample collection process can be accelerated, as well as delivered with increased accuracy.
  • OMNICOLL Fraction Collector and Autosampler can be used with any bioreactor systems on the market to perform automatic sample collection.
  • OMNICOLL perform on line sample collection from bioreactors for off line sample analysis. With the help of LAMBDA peristaltic pump, OMNICOLL collects samples from Bioreactor continuously at the desired time intervals.
  • The collection of samples are possible with a time interval between consecutive fractions varying between 0.1 min and 16.6 hours (999.9 min) or 1 min and 166 hours (9999 min).

Automated bioreactor sampling from multiple bioreactors simultaneously:

  • Taking samples from many bioreactors at a time during parallel fermentation is also easy with OMNICOLL auto sampler.
  • Together with a Multichannel peristaltic pump (third party) or many LAMBDA Peristaltic pumps, OMNICOLL performs automated bioreactor sampling multiple bioreactors simultaneously
  • Collection numbers can be customized based on the needs. The sampler moves as per the signal received from the peristaltic pump or bioreactor.
  • Sometimes it could be useful to take samples during a process, at a moment which is not known in advance. For example, during fermentation (or any other biological, chemical or physical processes) certain limit values activate the alarm signal. This signal can be used to take a fraction. This fraction may be essential to recognize the reason for the alarm.

Biosafety cabinet compatible

The OMNICOLL Autosampler is designed for use in biosafety cabinets and cleanroom environments, ensuring sterile sample collection for sensitive processes.
